Review of 2011’s Photography

The „Best of 20**“ postings are always piling up in the blogs of the colleagues at the end of the year. What what is actually „Best of“? Is the rest then just „fine“? It reminds me all these casting-shows, where they compare artists with each other till there is only one left. But is it actually possible to press art, photography and music in such a evaluative, upon its technical and creative level, concept?

I say no. As we know, we can always fight about taste. I find it very difficult to classify and to evaluate some photographs better then the others. Especially wedding photographs have their very personal value, even within one family there are different favorites. Granny surely prefers another picture, then the wedding couple.

That is why I name the year-overview not the „Best of“, but an expedition through the year. Wedding photography divided in engagement- and couple-shootings, details and decoration and the flow of the day.

I had a chance to accompany lots of wonderful couples, was on Sylt many times, as well as in Essex, London, Faarborg (Denmark), Berlin, Kassel, Nordheim, Hamburg, Lüneburg and Glücksburg.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Imagefilm for polychroma.de

I have done something completely different this time. No wedding photography. I made a film. The topic film has always interested me. As a photographer one already has the necessary high-end camera equipment. The current digital SLR systems are filming with 1080p. In combination with high-quality lenses one achieves results, which used to be reserved for considerably more expensive systems just five years ago.

I created a an imagefilm for polychroma, a letterpress company located here in Hamburg. Letterpress is the purest form of printing. This method is used for many premium products, like wedding invitations or business cards. Gerrit Baumann dedicates himself to this printing method with a lot of love and knowledge.

In the future I will broaden my range of services with imagefilms next to wedding photography and advertisement/business photography. I hope you enjoy my first work :-)

As a Wedding Photographer in Mölln

Wonderful weather, beautiful people, cool location, what could go wrong on this day. And nothing went wrong from the morning till the evening. As for the evening, the sky has indulged us with the most beautiful stars, so I could use this time for some wedding and group portraits.

Wonderful Léonie Gené took care of the look of the bride. The main location of the day was Waldhof in Mölln, there was a preparation, dining and party. A very relaxing place, especially for guests with children. The marriage took place in the church of Mölln and then we took our time for the portraits in the surroundings.

My Polaroid „Affair“

Many bridal couples and guests who saw me working as a wedding photographer this year have seen an antique looking camera which I used from time to time. A thing without display and battery, which was the current technique when my father learned how to walk. What I am using is an old polaroid camera, I am using two different models, depending on the light situation.

Every time I pulled a photo directly out of the back of the camera the eyes of the couples became big. The „normal“ polaroid, which comes out with a whirring sound out of the front, is known by most people. I am using the „Packfilm“-format, which goes more into the direction of real photos ;-)

This year was a test run, the really positive feedback led to the decision to offer the polaroid-action as a guestbook-option. It an idea for a present for the bridal couple as well as for the wedding guests.

The price will depend on the number of guests and from the chosen guest book. The photographed guest couple will always receive two photos, one to take home and one which they can, together with their wishes for the bridal couple, put in the guestbook.

Free spirit

A freed spirit is beautiful, but who achieved that? In the hotel Freigeist („Free Spirit“) in Northeim you might find some help, it is an oasis in the middle of a big forrest. I shot there the amazing wedding of Mona and Martin, with many Best Men and Bridesmaids giving the wedding a soft international touch. Best men and Bridesmaids are not very common in Germany.

As a Wedding Photographer in Leez Priory

If you drive in the countryside from London direction North for about one hour, you reach Leez Priory. But it was not easy to find even with the navigation system. Many times we drove on the smallest farm lanes around the location without seeing it.

But when we got there, the incredible view revealed as we passed the time-honoured walls. Every castle is special for me, as a wedding photographer: they tell the stories of many epochs, generations and weddings.

After I enjoyed the masonry, I saw the bride coming on-towards me, so we could start with the preparation and photography. The marriage took place in the church of Kelvedon, where the groom was waiting already. The ceremony was very touching, some guests were singing together as a choir for the bridal couple.

The reception went on in Leez Priory with an accompaniment of a salsa band. We had great weather and guests could chill out in the garden and in the evening ‚SuperSukka‘ band fired the guests up. It was a beautiful and relaxed celebration, that will stay in our memories.
