Sylt, my love…

Nowadays I almost live on Sylt. I have already photographed many weddings there, and I am booked quite a lot this year as well. I can almost say, I know the Shuttle-guys with their names. I always enjoy fresh air and amazing light on the island. Sylt is a great place to get married, I have never experienced bad mood there, maybe because Sylt has such relaxing atmosphere.

I know étoile very well already, so many weddings that I have photographed start here. I can always recommend this place with a prefect team of hairdressers and make-up artists.
So this wedding had started in étoile as well, and then we moved to Watthof, where the groom was getting ready.

The ceremony had taken its place in the church of Keitum, and after that we made a Photo-shooting around the island. A great conclusion for everyone was excellent cuisine of Söl´ringhof. My special thanks to Nina K., who took the pictures from the church gallery.

Lighthouse Wedding on Sylt

This was my first wedding as photographer in the lighthouse in Hoernum. Entire nine people fit in the tower and one is quite out of breath once the top is reached. But before the marriage ceremony there was of course the preparation of the bride. Nancy got a gorgeous bridal hair style at the Etoilé, the dress she put on at the cottage, from where everyone left together.

After climbing all the stairs of the lighthouse and taking a good breath, one can enjoy the incredibly beautiful view. To marry at this place is truly something very special. It helps to get over the fact that the maximum capacity to witness the ceremony is nine people.

After the mandatory sheet cutting, balloon flying and tree stem cutting, everyone enjoyed an outstanding lunch in the wonderful beach atmosphere of the Seepferdchen.

The beauty of Sylt for me as a wedding photographer is the possibility to take beautiful portrait pictures everywhere, be it in the dune landscape or at the beach.

This Time Sylt in Rainy Weather

One cannot always be favored by fortune: When I left Hamburg it was raining cats and dogs and upon my arrival on Sylt the weather was not much better. One could could come the conclusion that as a wedding photographer from Hamburg I am very well used to rain but in comparison the weather in Hamburg is quite good.

On Sylt it soon became better, at least the rain nearly ended, so that we could take the portrait photos outside. Both Sandra and Harri were very relaxed during their marriage ceremony. They simply rented a cottage for themselves and their guests. In this cottage everyone spent a lot of time together, insofar nobody was bothered by the weather.

The rainy Sylt revealed a lot of new opportunities for me as a photographer. In certain parts the landscape and the weather reminded of Scotland.

Preparation: Kampen, cottage
Marriage ceremony: Gret Palucca

Sylt in the Most Beautiful Weather

End of April I had the pleasure of accompanying a bridal couple on Sylt for two days. On the first day there was the civil wedding ceremony at the museum of local history in Keitum. Previously we used the fine weather for taking some portrait photos.

After the wonderful wedding ceremony Silke von Bremen led us through a tour of the town and and had a story about many of the houses. The day ended in the “Fisch-Fiete” with excellent food. Day two startet with the preparations in Keitum and in Budersand. After an extensive photo session at the beach the party began in the evening at the Stroenholt.

Two long days – the corresponding amount of photos I am presenting now. Have fun watching!

Successful Participation as a Wedding Photographer in an International Contest

Today it is happening again, the International Society of Wedding Photographers has announced the winners of their fall contest. In the ISPWP a lot of the world’s best wedding photographers are represented. The competition was strong, I really like all the winning photos.

Once again a few of my photos made it into the selection as well, they were even enough to be placed second in the category “pure art”. I am very fortunate and want to thank all my bridal couples, who enabled those photos in the first place. I am very glad about this ending of the season.

Sylt – Stormy Wedding in the Sturmhaube

In the morning, when I drove off in Hamburg, the weather was lightly rainy and foggy. When Ines put her dress on in the late morning, the first rays of sunshine came through and the wedding at the beach could begin.

The churchly wedding at the beach of Sylt in sunny weather and sommerly temperatures had some south sea atmosphere, especially because the water at Sylt is green/blue and the sand is quite white. For me as a wedding photographer these are of course dreamlike conditions.

As to the ceremony, I have to say that I have rarely witnessed such a eased and happy-emotional ceremony, the pastors was in a extremely good mood. Die three of them (yes, three, Muffin belongs to them, too) then later had the party with their friends and family at the Sturmhaube.

I liked so many of the photos that I put over 30 in this post. Correspondingly long will be the loading time, but I promise it will be worth the while :-) I would have loved to show even more photos, who wants, might have a look at the slide show of the wedding.

To the last photo: Muffin somehow got the thing with marrying and the kiss after exchanging of the rings a little bit wrong :-) (Please do not try this at home, the scene was played by professionally trained stunt dogs)
